Dear Celebrant:

One of the fundamental pillars of this website is the notion that a text is only sacred when it interacts with the living and breathing people who experience it. But as the creator of this site, I was inspired to elevate my sacred texts to yet another level — one in which they became speakable and performable within the context of a vast array of interconnected, narrative-based stories.

That is why, apart from The Epistles of Antinous and the Psalms, all of the Sacred Texts are (or will be) written as stage plays. The decision to approach my fictional Gospels in such a non-traditional manner was based on a personal belief that theatre is by far the most community-oriented of the expressive arts, and, when it's done well, can become a kind of religious experience in and of itself. Thus, the stage felt like the perfect literary format in which to explore the life and times of Antinous.

But there's a problem: Theatre is expensive. Anyone who has ever struggled to get a show onto its feet no doubt knows all about the various costs that lurk in the wings: Actors' salaries (especially if the texts call for classical training - a factor which greatly increases the likelihood that the actors will be unionized); the salaries of technicians and craftspeople; the costs associated with renting the theatre, building the sets, finding the props, and assembling the costumes; and finally, the substantial price tag of promoting the show.

Hence this particular page of The Sacred Antinous website: a place to announce the current fundraising campaign, and encourage you to help make it a success. There are many ways to contribute, and they represent a variety of different strategies.
